FAQs

  • The majestic Rock River is a Mississippi River tributary that runs from Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, down through Dixon, Illinois, and finally into the mighty Mississippi in the Quad Cities.

More notably, the Rock River was the most important body of water in the life of President Ronald Reagan (the other RR). Growing up in Dixon, Illinois, President Reagan spent many years as a lifeguard on the Rock River in Lowell Park. It was here that he was able to develop a keen appreciation for God’s creation and for serving the community that he lived in.

Anyone who has visited Dixon and Lowell Park knows the mysteriously tranquil and proud presence that the river leaves on their mind. At Rock River Leather Co., we try to impart a small bit of this feeling into our products for our customers to enjoy.

  • Rock River Leather Co. works with what many in the industry consider to be the finest leather in the world. Most products are proudly sourced from the prestigious American tanneries of Hermann Oak, Wickett & Craig, and Horween. On occasion, some products may feature fine Italian hides.

Additionally, we work exclusively with full-grain leather, the best possible portion of the hide.

As customers will tell you, the premium leather is well worth investment. While many of the largest “leather goods” brands charge premium prices, rarely are they using leather from these tanneries–if using actual leather at all.

Rock River Leather Co. is proud of the art and prouder of the legacy and quality of the incredible American companies we source from. Because of this, we want to provide our customers with honest American quality that will last a lifetime.

  • Full-grain leather is what every other leather product wants you to think it is–it’s the strongest and most attractive part of the animals hide.

If you are like us, you’ve struggled to find quality leather, never understanding what all the adjectives before the word “leather” really mean. Well, that ends today.

While “genuine,” “top-grain,” and “corrected,” might all sound like nice kinds of leather, anyone who has owned anything with that in the name, be they jackets, chairs, wallets, etc., has discovered that they wear out over time, often peeling or cracking. Full-grain does not do this.

Full-grain leather comes from the very top of the animals skin, directly combating the elements during the animal’s lifetime. Because of this, full-grain leather usually exhibits unique character traits that provide little windows into the animals life, scars, hair follicles, bug bits, fencing marks (for the cows that thought it might be greener on the other side of the pasture), etc. This all helps to ensure that each leather product you own is wholly unique and like no other. And when you put the added time in with your good, it will take on a new appearance, adding to the stories captured by the leather.

And finally, don’t worry. If there are any ugly imperfections on the hides that could detract from the products appearance or utility, you will never see it. Again, we want our customers to have the best.

  • Yes. Because we use the finest full-grain leather, and because we meticulously build each piece, we confidently stand behind each of our products. We provide a lifetime guarantee for all of our leather goods under their intended use and with routine love and care (don’t expect your leather wallet to survive your Hawaiian scuba trip).

If your product by some off occurrence fails to live up to its reputation, contact us, and we will either repair it or replace it.

  • While every piece is different (the type of leather used, the environment the product is used in, humidity levels, etc.), it’s a good habit to condition your leather goods every three to six months to ensure the product maintains its strength and beauty. If you practice regular maintenance, you should be able to hand your cherished products off to your kids.
